Library Monitors The Kelty Resource Centre encourages the involvement of students in library acitivities. Students in year 8 have the opportunity to work in the library for one lunchtime a cycle. This position involves an application process and selected students will wear receive a badge and acknowledgement at School Assembly. |

Library Monitors Rights & Obligations
Duty Schedule
- to provide opportunities for student leadership at the junior levels
- to encourage the concept of community service – of students volunteering for the benefit of the school community
- to provide the opportunity for the acquisition of new skills
- to assist in the development of self esteem
- to foster the sense of group identity – of students belonging to a group in the school and feeling greater connection to the school community
- to broaden the perception of the function of our school library
- to provide enjoyable social opportunities as a reward for service
STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM
- The position of Library Monitors will be open to students in Year 8
- Application for the position will occur in Term 4 of the previous year (so students apply as Year 7s- excepting 2011 where applications will take place in term 2 to begin term 3)
- Students will complete a written application which includes a teacher reference and parents’ signature
- Students will also be interviewed by the Library staff
- Successful applicants will be trained at the end of Term 4 (by Library staff and current Library monitors)
- Library monitors will work in the library at lunchtimes – once a week
- Two monitors will be rostered each day – one for returning through circulation and one for shelving duties
- A term roster will be supplied to Library monitors outlining their allocated times – a copy will also be kept at the Circulation desk
- A list of duties and responsibilities will also be supplied to all Library Monitors (and a copy kept at the Circulation desk)
- A maximum of 10 volunteers will be accepted for training
Library Monitors Rights & Obligations
- Monitors will be eligible to receive a reference upon request depending on quality of service
- Monitors will be appropriately trained to establish the necessary skills for the job and will receive the full support of the Library staff
- Monitors will be actively encouraged to provide feedback on the KRC Monitors program to ensure its ongoing effectiveness
- Monitors must provide positive examples of good behaviour, especially in the KRC
- Monitors must complete their designated duties as outlined below (and on the “KRC Monitors’ Duties” form)
Duty Schedule
- A monitor must undertake a minimum of one duty per week
- Monitors who have other scheduled activities (eg an excursion) must arrange with another monitor to do their duty and must inform the Librarians of the changes
- A roster for monitors is at the Circulation desk
- Friends are NOT permitted behind the Circulation desk
- A maximum of 10 volunteers will be accepted for training
